Texas to the South Western-16?

The PAC-10 wants to invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to the conference, raising the number of teams to sixteen.

Could this be the start of the mega conferences?

Just ask the University of Texas, they seem to be the ones in charge of the situation.

More after the jump..

Texas may just push Baylor into the PAC-10

Texas wants Baylor to replace Colorado on that list. This comes days after earlier reports that Texas wanted Baylor out of the Big 12 conference.

What’s going on here?

Texas doesn’t like playing football games outside the state of Texas. With the option to join, what would be a PAC-16 conference, Texas doesn’t want to play all of those games on the west coast.

The PAC-10 needs to realize however that Colorado is more valuable than Baylor. Colorado has a larger TV market than Baylor, in the Denver market. Baylor does have great facilities and academics, but its all about ratings.

Deadlines have been set for Friday afternoon, but I don’t see anything happening unless Texas jumps ship. Why doesn’t Texas just become an independent? , they already act like Notre Dame…

- Clemson QB Kyle Parker was selected as the 26th overall pick in last night’s opening round of the MLB draft. The Colorado Rockies took the athlete who has hit 20 homeruns this season, after throwing 20 touchdowns this past season, a first for a college athlete. Parker will most likely bolt for a contract in baseball, although nothing is set in stone yet. That means Clemson’s football team can welcome, Tajh Boyd, the new projected starting quarterback. No wonder the Rockies took Parker, they have already found success in a former college football quarterback in Todd Helton.

- A much underrated opening night game for the 2010 college football season has to be, Minnesota at Middle Tennessee State (7:30 ESPNU). Led by QB Dwight Dasher, Middle Tennessee is the class of the Sun Belt and the conference favorite. Minnesota returns senior QB Adam Weber, who is coming off of a 2,500 yard, 13 TD season. Both schools defenses let up almost 23 points a game, which means there should be a lot of offense. A good sign for an opening weekend game.

- Last night I caught up with FAU signee Jerrard Hunter, you can see my write up HERE.
