2010 Preseason AA-Team

LSU center T-Bob Herbert was the latest college football star to be arrested over the past couple of weeks, which has become a popular trend.

Just Google, “college football arrests” and over 20 different cases will come up involving a college football star running into trouble with the law.

In Herbert’s case, early Sunday morning he was driving in a parking lot and accidently hitting parked cars before officers pulled him over to discover he was under the influence.

Many athletes have had similar occurrences like this and the only answer is; college kids will be college kids.

Yes, you would think an 18-year old athlete would value a full ride scholarship to school over having fun, but surprisingly not. Just read through some of the blog posts on here and you discover that an arrest is almost as common as an injury or transfer.

Below 4th and Long has put together its 2010 Preseason AA (All-Arrest) Team.

Was Oregon's LaMichael James on the list?

Enjoy watching these players this upcoming fall, who at one time found themselves in handcuffs.

Note: Players listed below are expected to still be playing next fall.

Offense:

QB- Robert Marve Purdue- Marve while at Miami punched out a car mirror and ran from the police accumulating two misdemeanors in the process. He also was a passenger in a Dodge Charger that flipped on I-75 causing multiple injuries leading to a redshirt freshman season.

RB- LaMichael James Oregon- Last season James took over the starting running back spot after teammate LeGarrette Blount punched an opposing player after a game. James then went on to finish 9th in the nation in rushing; however he followed Blount’s ways and strangled his girlfriend in an altercation. He was awarded with strangulation, assault and menacing misdemeanors.

RB- Noel Devine West Virginia- Devine, who at one time lived with Deon Sanders until he stole Deon’s wife’s escalade, got involved at an off campus club fight with teammate Jock Sanders. Sanders and Devine stopped and beat two students outside the club and then were charged with a misdemeanor.

WR- Bert Reed FSU- Wide receivers at FSU don’t get along to well with Phi Beta Sigma, and Reed can be identified as one of the main reasons. Reed along with some other teammates got into an on-campus brawl with the fraternity, and ended up with a misdemeanor battery charge.

WR- Dion Lecorn South Carolina- Lecorn and his buddies were found outside his South Carolina apartment complex by a female officer who smelled marijuana. A misdemeanor possession charge was the result of the incident and Lecorn has been productive since.

TE- George Bryan North Carolina State- Just last week, Bryan and four of his teammates were busted for marijuana related charges when officers smelled the substance coming from the apartment leased to Bryan. The All-ACC performer was charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of using a controlled substance after a search warrant produced multiple bags of marijuana, bongs and a blackberry with pictures of marijuana plants on it.

OL- Carl Johnson Florida- Johnson got into some trouble with his girlfriend after she claimed that he had date-raped her multiple times over a span of three months. After the incident a restraining order was filled, but then Johnson decided to knowingly avoid the paperwork and ride a bus with the women, which led to his arrest.

OL- Ryan Wynn Minnesota- After Minnesota’s December 31st Insight Bowl game appearance, Wynn decided to spend the next day (New Year’s Eve) under the influence while in Arizona. Sighted by police officers who believed he was under the influence, Wynn was charged with consumption by a minor.

OL- Mike Golic Jr. Notre Shame- Golic Jr., the son of ESPN radio host Mike Golic, decided to drink underage at a local Irish bar in South Bend and was caught in the process. Charged with a misdemeanor for underage consumption, Golic Jr. made it an awkward moment for his father as he had to discuss what happened on a national broadcast.

OL- Mike Pouncey Florida- Mike, was never really arrested, but his identical twin brother was charged with having an open container. Sure, it wasn’t Mike who got the charge, but those twins have always been together and around each other. So when Maurkice decided to crack his 16-oz. Natural Light, I’m sure Mike was nearby.

OL- T-Bob Hebert LSU- (see above)

K- Anthony Fera Penn State- Fera might have the greatest story of them all. Spotted near his campus apartment, officers caught Fera swigging from his bottle of Cruzan Mango Rum. Booked for consumption of alcohol by a minor, Fera might have wished he had done something a little more manly.

Others considered:

Cam Newton QB Auburn (stealing a laptop while at Florida), Jaamal Berry RB Ohio State (possession of 28 grams of marijuana), Jeremiah Masoli QB Oregon (stealing a laptop form a fraternity house) Note; Massoli didn’t qualify because of his 2010 suspension, Rob Beard K Oregon (drunkenly assaulted a women), Terrance Toliver WR LSU (tased and arrested after getting into a bar fight), Stephen Garcia QB South Carolina (2 career arrests, one for damaging a professors car with a key, the other for public intoxication)

Check back tomorrow for the defensive side of the ball…
